I have forgotten my Ecto password, what should I do?
The secure design of CertainKey Ecto makes it impossible for someone
without the correct login password to decrypt a document protected with
Ecto. As a consequence of this, if the owner of the protected file
forgets the password to their Ecto application, the documents and files
protected with that key/password pair is forever lost.
To use the Ecto application again with a new password a new login must be created.

I have lost my key storage device, what should I do?
The secure design of CertainKey Ecto makes it impossible for someone
without the USB storage device to decrypt a document protected with Ecto,
regardless if they know the correct password. As a consequence of this, if the
owner of the protected file losses their USB device, the documents and files
protected with that USB device are lost forever.

How do I remove the old login and create a new one?
Before you proceed with this process it is very important to decrypt
all documents and files that you have encrypted with the old login. Once a new
login is created (even if you use the same login name and password), it is
impossible to retrieve the old documents. Again, all previously
protected documents will be lost forever.
Follow the following steps to create a new login:
- Remove the existing CertainKey identity file from your USB storage device located at "Ecto_DO_NOT_REMOVE/ckdokid.dat".

- Launch the Ecto application and login, this will guide you though the creation of a new identity.

My Ecto software is not behaving correctly, how do I fix this?
The CertainKey Ecto application has been tested and shown to be very robust.
However there may exist circumstances where Ecto can become inconsistent.
The simplest solution for this is to re-download the Ecto application from your USB key storage manufacturer's website or www.certainkey.com.
When install directions are followed, the existing login identity will be preserved.
